Ayodhya is an important center of Indian cultural heritage and the Ram Temple located here is a special religious place.  Or rather it is going to happen again.  Actually, the history of Ayodhya is of India’s pride, but this place has suffered a lot of pain.  During the Muslim period, many temples of the country were broken, many were looted.  Ram Janmabhoomi temple of Ayodhya also became an example of this barbarity.  But it seems that time is correcting its mistake.

where is ayodhya ram temple

Ram mandir located in Ayodhya is one of the major Hindu pilgrimage places in the world.  This temple is located in Ayodhya city of Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh. Ayodhya district was earlier called Faizabad district but Yogi government changed the name of the district to Ayodhya.  Ayodhya is about 141 kilometers from Lucknow.  The journey takes about two and a half hours by car.  When we proceed from Lucknow on the way to Gorakhpur, the city of Ayodhya lies in between.  If we travel from Lucknow to Ayodhya via Purvanchal Express Highway, then it is a journey of about 192 kilometers and we have to travel for about 3:30 hours by car.  We can reach Ayodhya Dham railway station by train and from January 6, 2024, this city is also connected to many big cities by airplane.  Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham was also inaugurated this year by Honorable Prime Minister Modi ji.

History of Ayodhya Ram Temple

The history of Ram Temple is particularly linked to the epic Ramayana and is considered an important stream of Sanatan Dharma.  The temple here is quite old.  Several centuries old temple.  But with the arrival of the Mughal period in India, temples started being neglected. During the time of the last Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, numerous temples were demolished.  Ram Janmabhoomi temple was also one of his temples.  This temple was demolished in 1528.  It is said that many Indians made sacrifices to save this temple but they could not win from Aurangzeb’s army.  If we talk about some nearby villages, then for the last five centuries the people there have been following the vows that their ancestors had taken at the time of the destruction of the temple.  Even today those villagers walk barefoot and do not wear umbrellas in the sun or rain.  Just remembering the vow of their ancestors, they will suffer like this until the temple is rebuilt.  Aurangzeb demolished the temple and converted it into a mosque.

However, many pictures or inscriptions of Hindu beliefs could be seen in this mosque.  Unlike common mosques, Namaz here was also not for full time.  During the British era, Hindu organizations started opposing the mosque built by demolishing this temple.  In 1853, a dispute started between Hindus and Muslims regarding this mosque.  The British then found a middle path and Hindus were allowed to worship in the outer part.  In 1949, the idol was found kept inside the mosque. Seeing the deepening of the controversy, the government got the mosque locked.  Then this lock was opened by Rajiv Gandhi government.  The matter even reached the court.  Then the government also joined it.  But no definite decision could be reached.  Then some organizations started the Kar Seva Scheme which was called Kar Sevak.  On December 6, 1992, a mob of these same Kar Sevaks demolished the mosque and installed a statue of Ramlala there.  At that time there was Narasimha Rao’s government at the center and Mulayam Singh’s government in the state of Uttar Pradesh.  It is said that many people were killed by police bullets at that time.  But this incident changed the direction of Indian politics.  This Babri Masjid, which was a symbol of the immense exploitation and crime of the Mughal era, was razed to the ground by the Kar Sevaks.

In 2010, Allahabad High Court in its decision had divided this temple into three parts, two parts with the Hindu side for the temple and one part with the Muslim side for namaz.  Even then the decision was in favor of Hindu ownership.  The matter again reached the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court again agreed to the argument of the Hindu side in 2019 and since then the work of building Ram temple started very fast.  The foundation stone of Ram Janmabhoomi was laid in the year 2020. To build the Ram temple, different materials have been procured from every corner of the country.  Laborers are working day and night.  All the eminent and respectable people of your country are being called on the day of Pran Pratistha.  It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi ji.  Ayodhya, which was once known for riots, is today regaining its old heritage and is once again becoming a living reflection of its glorious history.  The system of the city has come to a standstill.  The city of Ayodhya is now decorated like a bride waiting for its Ram.
